Pitra Dosh Nivaran

Honouring ancestors for blessings and peace

Overview

Pitra Dosh is believed to arise when ancestors' souls remain unsatisfied, affecting descendants through recurring obstacles in health, progeny or prosperity. Ujjain, being on the Shipra, is a traditional site for such ancestral rites.

Religious Importance

The ritual draws on shraddha traditions, offering tarpan (water offerings) and pind daan-style worship to bring peace to the pitras and their blessings to the family.

Who Should Perform This Ritual

Usually performed by the eldest son or a designated family member, though we can guide any family member through an appropriate alternative where tradition allows.

Benefits

  • Aimed at easing recurring family and health obstacles
  • Believed to bring the blessings of ancestors for prosperity
  • Traditionally supports smoother progress in progeny-related matters
  • Brings a sense of closure and gratitude toward one's lineage

When Should It Be Performed

Pitru Paksha (the fortnight dedicated to ancestors) is the most traditional window, though it can also be performed on the ancestor's death anniversary (tithi) or after checking the panchang.
