Mahamrityunjaya Jaap

The great life-restoring mantra chant

Overview

The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is chanted a fixed number of times — often in multiples of 1,25,000 — by one or more priests over several sittings. It is among the most sought-after remedies for serious illness, upcoming surgery, or general protection.

Religious Importance

Also called the 'Moksha Mantra', it is one of the oldest and most powerful mantras in the Rigveda, associated with healing, longevity and liberation from fear of death.

Who Should Perform This Ritual

Can be started on any auspicious day, though Mondays and Pradosh days are preferred. Often performed ahead of a scheduled surgery or during recovery from illness.

Detailed Procedure

  1. 1

    Sankalp and count decided

We discuss the appropriate jaap count (e.g. 11,000, 1,25,000) based on your intent and available time.

  2. 2

    Purification

The priest performs a short shuddhikaran (purification) before beginning the chant.

  3. 3

    Continuous or scheduled chanting

The mantra is chanted in sittings across one or more days, depending on the total count requested.

  4. 4

    Havan (optional)

A concluding havan can be added, offering a tenth of the chant count in ahutis.

  5. 5

    Sankalp poorna

A closing ritual confirms completion, followed by prasad distribution.
