Overview

Rudrabhishek involves the ceremonial bathing of the Shiva Linga with a sequence of sacred substances while Rudra mantras are chanted. It is one of the most popular pujas among visitors to Ujjain, performed either within the Mahakaleshwar complex or at a chosen temple, according to your preference.

When Should It Be Performed

Detailed Procedure

   Sankalp

   The priest takes a formal resolve stating your name, gotra and the purpose of the puja.

   Ganesh Vandana

   A short invocation to Lord Ganesha before the main ritual begins.

   Abhishek

   The Linga is bathed sequentially with water, milk, curd, honey, ghee and sugarcane juice, each accompanied by mantras.

   Rudri Path

   Chanting of Rudra mantras from the Yajurveda through the course of the abhishek.

   Aarti and Prasad

   The ritual concludes with aarti and distribution of prasad.
